Obama’s fundraising “advantage”

Written by tocqueville on April 23, 2008 – 6:06 pm -

As much as I hate to say that I agree with Hillary Clinton, she made a great point yesterday about why Obama has failed to close the deal after looking unstoppable barely over a month ago. He has finally been vetted like a normal politician, and it turns out he has dirt on him just like any other politician. But what really encourages me going into the general election is that he has been so completely unable to capitalize on his huge fundraising advantage. He outspent Clinton on ads by more than 2-1 in PA (and outspent her overall by about 3.5-1), but lost by 10 percentage points. He outspent her in Texas (I can’t even count how many Obama ads I saw over a three week span before the primary) and Ohio and lost there too. It’s a given that if he is still the nominee he’ll have a lot more money to spend than McCain. But given that Barack is throwing money around lately and losing and McCain got horribly outspent in the Republican primary and won, that fact just doesn’t worry me as much as it used to.

Guns obviously cause crime

Written by tocqueville on April 8, 2008 – 3:49 pm -

To excerpt from an AP story about a tragic attack in Australia:

“A group of teenagers armed with baseball bats and machetes attacked Australian teachers and students on Monday, injuring 18 people and forcing a high school in Sydney to be locked down, police said.
Five youths barged into the morning assembly at Merrylands High School in south-west Sydney, witnesses said, grabbing students before starting to smash windows at the school.”

Wait, I thought school violence happened because of guns. As we all know, things like this don’t happen in countries with gun control laws. Or maybe, just maybe, angry violent people commit crimes because… they are angry violent people

Welcome All

Written by thedailytoxin on March 28, 2008 – 4:16 pm -

For years Conservative UT - Austin students have nicknamed “The Daily Texan” as the “The Daily Toxin.”  As a school newspaper it has done very little in these past years to represent all of the students at UT.  That’s why we created this blog spot.  We would like to serve as a source for news on campus that just doesn’t cater to liberal students, like our school newspaper, but stories and activities that conservatives would appreciate.  We welcome any comments or suggestions on how we as blogger and students can better this site and our campus.  We hope to begin some serious blogging within the next week!

Hook’em Horns,
